I was tempted not to write this newsletter today. I'm tired, I have a lot on my mind, my boxing class yesterday was brutal... There are so many reasons.
But then I remembered I’d promised myself I would write a coaching newsletter once a month – just as a way to keep in touch with all of you and hopefully drum up some extra business.
[Commercial break: please do feel free to pass these on so I can grow my audience!]
As I thought about that promise I'd made to myself, I was reminded of one of my friends’ stock phrases ringing in my ears: a promise is a promise. He says it emphatically, with gravitas.
And it gave me pause. I know I become horribly disappointed with myself when I don't keep my promises to myself – which is frequently, if I'm honest.
I also find I’m much better at keeping promises to other people than I am at keeping the promises I make to myself: the promises to walk daily, doomscroll less, do some DIY, make those roman blinds... It's a long list.
So here's this month's challenge: Think about the promises you've made to yourself that you haven’t kept. Why haven’t you kept them? What's holding you back? And then pick an easy one and make it happen today. You’ll be so glad you did. |
